Libby was our first Great Dane. She was truly a GREAT Dane. It is because of her that we
got Great Danes # 2, 3 and 4! She always loved puppies, and was known as "Big Mommy".
Though she never had a litter of her own, in her mind ALL puppies were hers! In the photos
below, one of the tiny puppies in the small photo on the left became the mother of the litter in
the other photos . Generation after generation, Libby loved her puppies.
Are you my mommy?
Max
Max started life knowing nothing but the misery of living in a puppy mill in Missouri. Until about 5 years of age, he lived in a wire cage in
a chicken coop, producing puppies to be sold to pet stores. Max was purchased by Havanese Rescue as part of a lot of seven
Havanese that were to be sent to auction to be sold. He was filthy, matted and covered with fleas, as were the rest of the dogs. He
weighed 7 pounds. From the day he was adopted from Havanese Rescue his life changed. For the first time, he learned to run in the
grass and play. He learned to be housebroken. He learned that he would get fed every day, and grew to be a 12 pound dog. He learned
that he would be clean and cared for, and his coat grew beautiful. He learned that he would be loved forever. He was Russ' special pet.
Max became a loving pet after a LOT of work!
A few weeks out of the puppy mill
Max had already had 2 baths in this
photo taken in April 1999. He was still
filthy from the puppy mill conditions he
had endured.
The photo above was taken in May 2000. What a
difference!
Darby
Darby was a Schipperke owned by Natalie's cousin, Arnie Brown. Darby was a part-time resident of our household, having spent his early
youth with us as well as his old age. He was shown only very briefly as a young dog, though he surely could have become a champion if his
show career had continued. A well-traveled dog, he accompanied Arnie on annual winter trips to Puerto Rico for many years, and was
Arnie's constant companion for most of his life. He is greatly missed by all of us.

Schasti
Schasti was Russ' miniature dachshund. We became a "blended family" when we married, and Schasti joined the Rottweiler and
Cairn Terrier that already lived with Natalie. She fit right in, as if she had always lived there, and she and the Cairn Terrier, Mallory,
became good buddies.
Pick it up? You must be kidding!
Don't try to touch my toy!
